The Bachelor of Information Technology Management (BITM) program will immerse you in the theories and diverse technical competencies that spell success in the field of information technology. The courses provide fundamental knowledge and application in both the information systems function and system development – but the program also cultivates general business skills, as it builds your awareness of IT from a business perspective.

The curriculum is designed to produce accomplished graduates with the competencies, knowledge, skills, and attitudes so eagerly sought in the globalized IT workplace. It can drive career growth or form the basis for future graduate studies. The program, course objectives and competencies have been benchmarked against key guidelines, enabling students to develop and demonstrate competencies in the five main IT areas: Business Systems Development, Programming and Operating Systems, Databases, Networks and Telecommunications, and the Internet.

Program Objectives for the Bachelor of Information Technology Management (BITM)

Graduates of the BITM program are taught to become business leaders in the information and communication technology sector and will be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas:

  • Utilization of the system development life cycle methodology to define system requirements and project scope.
  • Management of ICT specialists who utilize a variety of programming skills including Java, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, and database management.
  • Implementation of Web-based solutions for e-commerce projects.
  • Development of rational and creative solutions for an organization’s business information technology needs.
  • Differentiation between operating systems and their benefits in various environments.
  • Contribution to the design and implementation of telecommunications and network systems.

Requirements for Degree Completion

The degree requirements for the BBA program are as follows:

  • Completion of a minimum of 40 courses (120 credits), that includes the following distribution:
  • A minimum cumulative University grade point average of 2.0

Tier I: Foundation (20 courses total)

Students in all undergraduate programs take the same set of 18 foundation courses to build a base of skills and knowledge required for professional life and lifelong learning. As the foundation for the more program-specific study of Tiers II and III, Tier I courses are designed to assist students in developing management, communications, critical thinking, and problem solving-skills needed for professional growth. These courses also strengthen students’ appreciation of the larger social, political, scientific and aesthetic cultures in which they live and work.

In addition to the 18 required courses, students select two (2) elective courses at the 1000- or 2000- evel, provided they have met the course’s prerequisites.

Tier II: Professional Stream (10 courses total)

Building upon the foundation courses, students proceed to the program’s professional stream where they begin to focus upon professional and organizational management. This stream is designed to develop knowledge and skills in each program’s respective core areas of management practice as well as the ability to analyze and synthesize data.

In the professional stream, the nine-course curriculum is designed to produce graduates ready to function in management positions with the competencies, knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for success in the global workplace. The coursework gives graduates a broad and holistic view of the complexity of issues in today’s business environment. The professional stream is the basis for career growth and a stepping stone to a graduate program. Students will also choose one elective at the 3000 level.

Tier III: BITM Specializations (8 required courses + 2 electives)

The Tier III BITM specialization courses focus on the following areas: Communication and Information Management; Digital Media Management; and Human Interface and Systems Management. Each specialization consists of 10 courses, including two 4000-level electives from the electives list, and a culminating specialization capstone course.

Additional Admissions Requirements for Undergraduate Applicants

  • Completion of high school or a GED certificate, or an appropriate comparable foreign equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of full-time, post high school work experience with exposure to organizational systems and management processes OR a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on the student’s high school transcript.
  • All applicants must be currently employed or have access to a suitable work environment to provide the opportunity needed to complete work assignments.
